deepOfix Rescue Mode - Main Page


The deepOfix rescue mode helps to recover crashed system. SSH service runs by default, which enables remote login into the crashed system. IP-adress, gateway, netmask, along with the root password has to be set, if remote login to the crashed system is required. The screen-package is included in the rescue mode.

This is what the deepOfix console looks like when it is first booted up. To enter into rescue-mode, select deepOfix rescue option from the menu and press enter.


To set password

Now, the following window appears. To set the password for root, select the option Password from the menu.

A dialog screen opens, in which you should enter the password you want to set for the root account.


Type password

Type the password and press enter.



Retype password

A dialog screen opens, which would prompt to enter the same password again. After entering the same password again in this dialog screen, press enter.


Set networking details

To set the networking details, select the option IP-Address from the menu and press enter.


Set ip-address

Type the ip-address, you want to set and press enter.


Set subnet mask

Type the subnet mask for your ip-address and press enter.


Set gateway

Type the gateway of your network and press enter.


Repair grub

To fix the grub, select the option Grub, from the menu and press enter.


Fix corrupted filesystem

To fix corrupted filesystem, select the option Fsck, from the menu and press enter. This option checks for minor errors in the reiserfs filesystem and fix it. We are using, only "fix-fixable" option of the fsck.reiserfs tool. So if there are any major corruption in the filesystem, then this will not fix it. Advanced fix options would be enabled soon.


Start a shell

To start a shell or console, through which commands can be run, select the option Shell, from the menu and press enter.


Login shell

The shell or console prompt would appear like this.
